Original green cover in fine condition with black embossed design and gold gilt lettering on front cover and spine. Chipping on top and bottom of spine and outer edges of cover, including corners. Some shelf-wear including a circular scrape on back, color worn off small spot on back cover, shelf wear on gutters. Wear and soiling on cover. Green end pages split along binding on inside front cover. Pencil writing on front pages, “Bot for Logan while he was sick in Kansas City, Aug. 14th, 1892.” Spine split but holding on back side of frontispiece. Chipping along bottom of title page. 2 ¼ inch tear along 2 contents pages. 12 illustrations in good condition. Text block pages in good condition with little fading or soiling. Binding split but holding on page 300. Actual size of book: 5 by 7 ¾ inches. 357 pages. These are the now famous folk tales as written down by Harris using language meant to convey the texture of a Southern Plantation. 1st edition. Literature.
