“The Lives of Gen.Taylor and Gen. Scott: to which is appended, An Outline History of Mexico, and a Brief History of The Mexican War. Illustrated with twelve “spirited” engravings. By Aurthur Sumpter, Published by H. Phelps & Co. New York, 1848. Original blue and white decorative paper cover in good condition with some shelf-wear, aging and soiling. Front top corner chipped. Back, top corner is bent and chipped. Additional corners frayed. Chipping and fraying on spine. Inside cover, end pages have aging/foxing. Coloring in front cover is visible from backside. Black and white engraving of Major-General Taylor in front of book has foxing, but otherwise in good condition, Map of Mexico and frontispiece engraving of General Scott entering Mexico City, in similar condition. Text pages have foxing. Actual size of book :5 ˝ by 9 inches. 62 pages plus 2 page appendix. Ads on back cover. The book is divided into three sections, as suggested by the title: The Life of Gen. Tayl. The life of Gen. Scott, and a History of Mexico and the Mexican War. History.
