"Following the Guidon," by Elizabeth B. Custer, Published by Harper & Brothers, New York, 1890, 16 black and white illustrations. 1st edition. Original green decorative cover with red, blue and silver gilt flags and gold gilt lettering on front cover and gold gilt lettering on spine in good condition. Actual size: 7 1/2 by 5 1/4 inches. 341 pages. Cover corners slightly bumped and slightly frayed. Spine has slight fraying on top and bottom. Cover has some shelf wear and soiling. Brown end-papers in fine condition. Front paste down end-paper has been torn, Ex-lib copy; "Soldiers’ Library Given by Citizens of Oregon, Collected by the Portland Public Library, Distributed by the Y. M. C. A. Handle…" Also on paste-down, pencil signature, "Henry Lillevitz." Discreet removal of numbers from bottom of spine, barely noticeable. Glue and paper residue to rear endpaper. In pencil on white end-paper "J. T. LeFevre," signature. Text-block pages in good condition, some fading and finger soiling. Page XIII of Preface is loose. Binding split but holding in some places.
