"The Klondike, A Souvenir" Illustrated by Geo G. Cantwell, Photographer. Published by Rufus Buck, mining engineer. Press of H. S. Crocker Company, San Francisco. Published around the turn of the 20th century – 1901? Actual size: 9 1/4 by 12 1/4 inches. Approx. 80 unnumbered pages long. Staple-bound. A Profusely illustrated book of Cantwell's photography of the Yukon Territory at the turn of the century at the height of the Yukon Gold Rush. Original Softcover with gold-gilt lettering on front decorative cover. Some soiling on front and back cover. Rounding of bottom and top corner pages. Book has been bent, approx. through middle leaving a slight impression along middle of most pages. Spine worn, 1/2 inch loss off top, approx. 1/4 inch off bottom. Some light foxing, soiling, and age-toning on inside pages. This is a series of half tone black and white photographs of Gold miners and mining camps, early settlers, Dawson City views, Nome city views, and Yukon Native Americans. The Photographs chronicle many of Cantwell's adventures in the Klondike while photographing the harsh terrain and working as a taxidermist in Dawson City. Text includes Cantwell's captions/explanations. Photographs dated 1889, 1899, 1900. Scarce. Americana. American History. Photography. Also included with this book is an original Albumen self portrait of Cantwell "In Upper Glacier Aug 3 1902". Photograph is mounted on thick stock board which measures 13 1/2 by 11 1/2 inches. Actual photograph measures 8 by 6 inches. Typical surface wear and a one inch bump and tear to bottom right corner of board stock.
