“The Kachinas are Coming,” Pueblo Indian Kachina Dolls with Related Folktales. By Gene Meany Hodge, Foreword by Dr. Frederick Webb Hodge. With Eighteen color plates by Gene Meany Hodge. Published by Northland Press, 1967, Flagstaff. Facsimile edition. Original two-tone decorative hardcover in good condition. Brown and tan cover has shelf-wear, especially along edges and corners. All corners scraped to cover-board. Some soiling on back cover. Gold lettering on the brown spine is faded. End pages in good + condition. Tri-colored cover page in good + condition. Text-block pages in good condition with little wear or soiling. Color-pages in good + condition. This is a selection of folk-tales with accompanying color plates made from Hopi Kachina dolls from the collections of the Southwest Museum. Hodge’s aim was to incorporate the little series of myths and tales which lend themselves to illustration by means of effigies representing sacred Kachina personages such as appear in the religious ceremonies of the Pueblo tribes of Arizona and New Mexico, according to former director of the Southwest Muesum, F.
