First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Condition: Original brown cloth decorative embossed covers. Gilt title on spine still bright. Shelfware to covers. Corners lightly bumped and starting to fray. Head and tail of spine bumped. 1/8" chipping to head of spine. Very fine marbled endpapers probably replacements. Pages age toned and minor foxing evident throughout. Small tear to top of page 183-4 and pages 179-182 are uncut. All edges rough cut. Binding is tight. Exact size: 8 3/8 x 5 1/2 inches. 284 pages. An explanation of the mathematics, artillery, and fortifications, and including the latest (c. 1830) regulations on courts martial, pay, pensions, allowances, etc. Book contains a 24 pg comparative table of ancient and modern geography, achievements and a chronological list by year of the engagements of the British Army, including many confrontations in North America and Napoleonic France, from 1799-1820, at end of book. Text notable for an address, by the author, to "Gentlemen Entering the Army", by Noted Military tactician E.S.N. Cambell of The Royal Military College, Sandhurst, United Kingdom. Rare.
