“The Volunteer Soldier of America,” by John A. Logan. Published by R. S. Peale & Company, Chicago and New York, 1887. 1st edition. Original blue and black decorative cover with gold gilt lettering in good condition. Wear on cover, especially along outer edges. Four corners frayed exposing coverboard. Approx. 3 ¾ inch stain along outer edge of back cover wear color has been removed. Spine has fraying on top and bottom, exposing coverboard. Some fingersoiling on cover. Decorative end pages in good condition. Spine split but holding along front cover. Spine split along back cover. Chipping and finger soiling on front end pages. Some pencil writing on front end pages and a small black stamp has been partially erased. Slight soiling on back endpages, also, a stamp has been partially erased and what could have been a pastedown has been almost completely removed leaving a white paper residue along the top of back end pages. Slight chipping along outer edges of back end pages. Some pencil writing on additional front pages. Full color frontispiece with military uniforms of all wars up to time of book publication. Dedication pages is a black and white illustration on glossy paper in good condition. Text block pages are in good + condition. Slight soiling along outer edges of some back pages. Various black and white illustrations in good condition. Actual size of book: 6 ¼ by 9 ½ inches. 706 pages. This is a book on military history by General and Senator Logan and includes a brief biography of General Logan. Scarce. 1st edition. Military History.
