Original dark brown cloth covers with gold gilt lettering on spine in good + condition. Slight bumping and shelfwear on front and back cover corners and to head and tail of spine. Actual size: 6 3/4 by 10 inches. 98 pages. Illustrations include many black and white photos, drawings, and sketches, by various illustrators. Binding split on page 84/85, but holding. Endpapers in good clean condition with no inscriptions or bookplates present. Textblock pages have some light finger-soiling and several dog-eared page corners to bottom outer corner. This is a classic account of the rise of the Pony Express and it's part in "taming" the West. The larger than life people struggling for self preservation, power and livelihood include Chief Red Cloud, Chief Sitting Bull, Kit Carson and Buffalo Bill Cody. Scarce.
