“Lalla Rookh,” by Thomas Moore, Published by Phillips, Sampson and Company, Boston, 1851. Original maroon cover with gold-gilt design and gold-gilt lettering on spine, in good condition. Wear on cover, especially along outer edges and spine. Coverboard exposed slightly on top front and back cover. Gold-gilt on outer edges of text block pages. End pages in good condition with some soiling and fading. Bottom corner of front end pages has small bend. Pencil writing on additional front pages, partially erased. Foxing on additional front pages and additional back pages. Crease on top of some front pages. Frontispiece drawn by Ritchter, engraved by O. Pelton, in good condition with foxing. Rice paper cover of frontispiece has foxing. Tear/chip on top of title page and first text-block pages. Text block pages in good condition. Binding in good condition. Actual size of book: 5 by 7 ¾ inches. 230 pages. This is a collection of 4 narrative poems with connecting prose telling the romantic tale of Princess Lalla Rookh’s journey to Cashmere to married to the King of Bucharia. On the journey she meets a poet who tells her mystical tales. Literature.
