“Wau-Bun, The Early Day in the Northwest, by Mrs. John H. Kinzie, Edited with notes and introduction by Louise Phelps Kellogg. Published by George Banta Publishing Company, Menasha, Wisconsin, 1930. Original brown cover in good condition with soiling and shelf wear. Wear especially on corners and top and bottom of spine. Gold-gilt lettering fading from spine. Brown end pages in good condition with some wear. Map on inside front cover, brown and cream. End pages split along spine. Additional front pages in good condition with some pencil writing. Text block pages in good condition with some aging/fading. 9 black and white illustrations in good condition. “Wau-Bun,” is part autobiography, accounting for the years 1830 – 1833 that Mrs. Kinzie spent at Fort Winnebago where her husband was sub-Indian agent for the fort. It includes an account of the massacre at Chicago, the captivity of Mr. Kinzie, battle at Lake Erie, etc…. Actual size of book: 5 by 7 ¾ inches. 390 pages. Classic. History.
