~ #1127 ~ Colorful 1900's Germantown ~ These samplers were produced for the newly discovered tourist trade in the Southwest at the end of the 19th century. The government decided that Navajo weavers would be more efficient if they didn't have to shear their sheep, and card and wash the wool, so they shipped wool from Germantown, PA, hence the name. Weavings of this type were produced until the turn of the century. This Germantown has a whirling log centered in the middle of it surrounded by bright red. It is done in bright colors with fringe on both ends. Very unique design. Measurements ~ 20" x 21"
