GILDER, Robert Fletcher (1856-1940) Oil painting: "Overlooking the Missouri River", Belleview. Dated 1911 on verso and with signature in oil. Exact size unframed 24x20". Condition: good plus three old repairs and moderate browning to backside of painting. On original stretcher; Canvas still relatively flat and tight. Robert Fletcher Gilder Was a noted Nebraskan Plein Air painter and archeologist, who influenced a whole movement of Nebraska art emphasizing the Plein Air style combined with impressionist palette of bright colors; which evokes the moods and emotions of landscape, nature paintings. He was widely exhibited in Nebraska and currently has works in the Joselyn Museum's Collection, Omaha,Nebraska. This particular painting titled "Looking over the Missouri River", Belleview 1911 shows a characteristic, beautifully rendered, brightly colored sunset over the Missouri River.
