1860'S APPLIQUED SISTER PRESENTATION QUILT with great intentions of either restoration or using the good early fabrics for worthy projects. Recent eye surgery/problems has allowed us to "free-up" these quilts and our intent is to get them into the right hands (and eyes). Please understand that they are indeed projects and/or labors of love and we are certainly not calling them great quilts, however, they are a wealth of fine and interesting fabrics, forms and stories. THIS AUCTION: This quilt is a wonderful bit of sentiment and is one that needs to be saved. Believe we are safe in calling it a "Presentation" quilt, designed and put together for the "sister" marrying or moving away. Some of the family names: Ingalls, Larabee, and Coober? Don't have a specific historic location for the quilt, but, it certainly might be possible to trace to specific families, for someone with one of these family names. There is also Amanda, Addy, Aaron, Eleanor, Arvin and Margaret. Some of the writings: "Remember thy sister, not many may know the depths of true sisterly love;" "The love of a brother shall be an ornament purer & richer by far than pearls from the depth of the sea;" "For loving? seek true happiness;" "My love, if sinners entice thee, concede thou not." All of the script is in pen & ink. Quilt needs lots of TLC, missing about two dozen small pieces and there is a fair amount of staining, but, it's really one sweet thing! 69 1/2" x 74" Will pack properly and ship promptly
to highest bidder.
