INCREDIBLE 1876 CENTENNIAL QUILT
(Item: CENTENNIAL QUILT)

This is one special & historic quilt... celebrating the 1876 Centennial, 56 women from Columbus, Nebraska participated and autographed for prosperity, this wonderful piece of American History.  There are 127 seven inch by 3 inch sashing blocks quilted "1876" and there are 72 "centennial" fabric blocks proclaiming the first 100 years, a print which was made just for the Centennial.
Excepting a couple of brown stains, the quilt is pristine, never washed...showing quilting marks...condition.  Quilting is extremely even and is nine stitches to the inch.  The fabrics are cottons in browns and madders, with no two blocks alike.  Quilt is very thin...folds up incredibly flat (see pictures)...with cotton batting.  The two stains are pictured and are it's only flaws.  Have not washed the quilt, but someone could remove these stains safely.  Entirely hand quilted and pieced; binding is machine applied.
Some of the names, signed in ink script, on the quilt...as best we can interpret are: Holtsinger; Erwin; Wiltsee; Blair; Whalon; Bowen; Faust; Myers; Galager; Clark; Grandose; Stewart; Earhart; Mother; Jenkins; Smithe; Granston; Hickox; Marshal; Sanizer; Long; Merisam; Bowers; Richardson; Wright; Little; Holtzinger; Mosteler; Virgin; Parson; Clark; Wright; Bower; & Cardon; one block is dated 1876.
The quilt is 127 years old and was made when Columbus, Nebraska was just 20 years old, having been founded by "colonists" from Columbus, Ohio, in 1856.  Columbus, Nebraska later became the "Cross Roads of the Nation" with the crossing of the Lincoln Highway, U.S. 30 and the Meridian Highway, U.S. 81; the cross point of the first East to West and North to South paved highways.
The quilt pattern is a variation of Monkey Wrench and each 6 3/4 inch square block is pieced of different period fabrics; overeall, it is 81 1/2 inches by 72 inches.  Offered here is a rare piece of Americana, of investment quality and far better than the pictures lend.
Will pack properly and ship promptly.
Will gladly work with buyer to get to destination by Christmas.
