BOLD CARL GORMAN 1981 SIGNED ARTIST PROOF The proof size is 29 by 21 inches and the metal frame size is 35 by 27 1/2 inches. A note on the back says it was framed in 1989 in Longmont, Colorado. This lovely and bold piece of art was acquired from a lady who knew Mr. Gorman and purchased it directly from him; we are the second owner and it is definitely "fresh to the market". It is covered with a piece of heavy, what looks like non-glare plexiglas...this could be improved upon... it is nicely matted. Some of the pictures below are taken with the plex removed, which show the most true colors. Also, the paper is black on the back and has two "raised" marks, which are below the signature, one of which looks like "OP" and the other is a logo of some type; as pictured below. Carl Nelson Gorman, a Navajo Indian, was born in 1907 on the Navajo Reservation in Chinle, Arizona and passed away in 1998; he was the father of famous Taos, N.M. artist R. C. Gorman and besides his art and writings, he was famous as one of the 29 WWII Navajo Code Talkers. There is also the C.N. Gorman Museum at the University of California, Davis, founded in 1973, and is renowned for its displays of Native American Art. Gorman was also a Professor of Art at U.C. Davis. He kept a studio in Ft. Defiance, Arizona. The image is a spirited wild stallion with a mystic Indian in the back and was difficult to photograph because of the black on dark burgundy colors and the plexiglas. Signed lower left "ARTIST PROOF" and "CARL GORMAN...1981" lower right. Image has no visible problems, so will call Condition Excellent. We guarantee this work to be as described. The book is also a wonderful treasure of images and information and trades with book sellers, unsigned for about $40. Will pack properly and ship promptly.
