18th CENTURY ROUND NORWEGIAN TINA BOX
(Item: TINA GRANDEST)
SOLD $600 This Lovely
painted box was found in Colorado in the estate of an elderly
couple. It has a finely carved pattern beneath the beautiful
paint. Quite a while ago we sent pictured to an expert on early
Norwegian items and we received the following: "Your box appears to be
from the 18th Century. it probably was not painted originally,
but scratched carved. The Rosemaling was probably done in the
19th Century, from the Telemark region. The white background is
unusual. It is a fine example of an early box." It retains
most of its original lacing and some of the original 18th Century
nails. The top board are pegged together, as are the bottom
ones. Some of the top edge rim has been lost, as pictured.
There is a note inside the box dated 1939 that says: "This box was
handed down by my great, great grandmother. it is over 300 years
old." ....signed Berel Lampland. She was a little "off" in
her dating, but it is indeed over 200 years old. The diameter is
13 inches and it stands about 8 inches tall. We don't often part
with things of this age and quality and are confident this is a fine
and early piece, so, complete satisfaction is guaranteed.
