EXCELLENT CHELSEA US NAVY DECK CLOCK NO. 2
(Item: CHELSEA)
SOLD $576 Sorely tempted
to keep this one! We knew nothing about Chelsea Clocks until we
found this one in a local Estate. He worked for a Jewelry Store,
after a Navy Career, as a Master Clock & Watch Repairman and this
was part of his fine collection. The Widow distributed all of the
clocks and watches to family and kept his prize Chelsea Clock. A
tiny bit of research shows that Chelsea is the finest American Clock
Maker and are renowned for Wonderful Precision Time Pieces and
Barometers. This Eight Day Clock has a Serial Number of
107640. The Chelsea web site mentions that for a small fee they
will supply clock owners with some detail about their clock if the
serial number is supplied (and a small payment). The diameter of
the front of the clock, with the screwed on cover is 5 3/8 inches and
the inside diameter of the silver colored dial is 4 inches. It is
set on a Mahogany Stand, which is 6 3/4 inches tall, 10 inches wide and
2 1/2 inches deep on the bottom. The clock is also 2 1/2 inches
deep. It is in Fine Running Order; it's lost a couple of minutes
in the past several days, so, it needs a slight speed-up with the F/S
mechanism. Marked on the dial, as pictured: "CHELSEA CLOCK CO.,
BOSTON, U.S.A....U.S. NAVY...DECK CLOCK NO. 2...a circled "N"
1084". The serial number is stamped on the back facing of the
clock, along with a Chelsea Clock Co. mark. Suppose it is Nickel
Silver over Brass; there is ever-so-slight pitting and minor scratching
on the metal, mainly on the front & tiny bit on the face; and, there is an old repair on the
top of the Mahogany case where the top set screw has split the wood
(this could probably be improved upon). There is green felt on
the bottom of the wood case. Included is a key that fits both the
clock wind and the speed mechanism. Also included is a
"Instructions for the care of Chelsea Precision Products"
booklet. Am unable to date the clock The booklet has the
number of 1-61 on the last page and has a telephone number for The
Company of CHelsea 3-0250. So, if the booklet is original with
the clock, the 1961 date is probably accurate. Would have guessed
it to be a bit earlier? The Face of the clock is a matte finish
silver color and the Roman Numeral Hours are cut into the metal
face. The Second Hand is just below the XII and functions
properly. The only other two "Deck Clock No.2" I could find with
an internet search were Black cases with no wooden stand. Offered
with No Reserve.
Will pack
