crock, Circa 1915, with lid is a wonderful example of stoneware. the
lid sits in a recessed rim. A wire bail handle with black wooden turned
dowel is attached to the pottery loops on the side of the crock.
Imprinted in blue is the word 'BUTTER'. Likewise there are two blue
rings around the jar and two around the lid. The jar is in Excellent
condition with no chips cracks or crazing. The lid is also in Excellent
condition. The knob on the lid has a large firing flaw, not a chip, under the glaze, as pictured. On the other side of this firing flaw is a tiny flake, which is the only none made flaw on the entire piece. The crock measures 5 1/2 inches tall, and 7 1/2 inches in diameter from loop to loop.
