EARLY MARK MCNAIR BLACK BELLIED PLOVER '70s EX VOORHEES
(Item: MCNAIR PLOVER)

Pleased to offer today and at No Reserve, a special Mark McNair Black Bellied Plover Shore Bird decoy carving, as pictured in the current (January) issue of Maine Antique Digest. The "Plover" is special on a number of counts, the foremost being that it was made by one of America's finest living decoy carvers, Mark McNair. Secondly, the condition is near pristine and thirdly, this bird was carved in the mid 1970's and is a very "early-on" example of McNair's work.
The Plover was part of the Voorhees collection and was acquired by Mrs. Voorhees, along with several other birds in 1974 in Connecicut. Four years ago we sold an outstanding McNair Loon decoy from the collection, which was accompanied by a 1974 newspaper article from Old Lyme, Connecticut, picturing the same Loon and McNair titled "The Bird Man of Old Lyme". We will gladly forward this reference and image of the Loon to anyone interested.
The Plover has a wonderful presence and wears his 30 years well. McNair's birds have a well documented auction history, with consistently rising prices. This Plover, because of the early date and near mint condition, is of obvious investment quality and should be a highlight of any decoy collection.
We offer the Plover with our normal "As Described" guarantee and we are confident of the provenance and quality, thus we also offer a complete satisfaction guarantee and with no reserve price.
The Plover is a good size at 9 1/8 inches long from tip of head to tip of carved tail and three inches broad at the breast. There are a few minor dings/dents here and there, but none are deep and a few tiny spots of paint loss, but, because of the light and dark colors, the small blemishes are pretty much only noticeable under magnification. There is a flake where the hole was drilled for the dowel. The wings are raised carved, as is the tail; eyes are glass and beak is original and bird is standing on Cedar wood block with a dowel. The paint is Excellent. Signed underneath in large stamped letters, as pictured: "McNAIR".
