9 3/4" JAS. HAMILTON PA. STONEWARE CROCK FREE & STENCIL
(Item: CROCK HAMILTON 1)

This James Hamilton 1 gallon Stoneware crock, Circa 1850, has a very thick cobalt decoration. The freehand cobalt just below the rim and just above the name was brushed on thick enough that when fired, it left a bubbly texture in some spots. The stencil states, 'JAS. HAMILTON & / CO. / GREENSBORO / PA.' Also note the nice large rim and double scribed lines below it. The crock has one spider type 'freeze' crack just to the left of the stenciling, as pictured. The crack extends approximately 3 inches vertically and 1 1/2 inches horizontally. Otherwise there are no Chips cracks or crazing. Crock measures 9 3/4 inches tall and 5 1/2 inches in diameter at the rim.
