J E CALDWELL 'KING' 8 INDIVIDUAL BUTTER SPREADERS Check out 30 + auctions this week full
of quality antique sterling from one local estate, much of which has
the same pattern and manufacturer.
We also have a number of auctions this week with similar patterns from
different makers, so check them out. ~This Auction W~ This is a set of eight (8), Sterling butter knives in the 'King' type pattern. The handle of each knife is marked 'STERLIING, J.E CALDWELL & CO.' There are no other marks so we assume they were made by JE Caldwell & Co. in Philadelphia some time around the turn of the century. They are monogrammed with the initials 'MG.' There are no marks on the blades and it appears the entire knife is sterling. They are nice and heave and in Very good condition with only minor scratching, though one knife does have some deep nicks in it. Looks like it was either dropped or the like, as there are half a dozen pin sized nicks. Otherwise this is a wonder set of butter knives. They each weigh 1.3 ounces for a total weight of 10.4 ounces. They each measure 6 1/8 inches long.
