(Item: MCNAIR)

SOLD....ar001980zz
Offering today, from our personal collection, and one of our finest decoys

..... a signed and documented, 1974 Mark McNair "LOON" decoy.....
The pictures below pretty much tell the story. Included with this wonderful decoy is the enclosed newspaper article about McNair and picturing,
as best we can determine, this exact bird!

We purchased "THE LOON" about 15 years ago from a friend, whom was an acquaintance of McNair. The article, with pictures, came with the decoy and will stay with the decoy. We have carefully looked at the back feather decoration and compared to the actual and there seems to be no doubt. The article is dated April 23, 1974 and states that McNair started carving decoys "a little over a year ago",
thus this bird, more than likely, dates from early 1973 to April of 1974.
It is signed "MSM".

CONDITION AND DESCRIPTION:
Can't describe the condition as anything but "near mint". There is a small area on one side of the neck that has a "light spot", where it may be missing some "overlay" dark paint.
It's actually difficult to say for sure this paint is "missing", as the other side is pictured in the article. This spot may have never had the darker surface paint. It is difficult to find anything else that resembles a problem.

Approximately 17 1/4 inches long, top of head is 6 1/2 inches and the widest point is 5 3/4 inches. Hollow two piece body, which is attached with square headed nails. The eyes seem to be tiny copper "rose headed" tacks. The paint is original and dry black and the feather decoration is a yellowish white. THE LOON has a wonderful presence and wears his 27-28 years well!
