Harry Wood Painting Dr. Harry Wood (b. Indianapolis, IN 1910-d.1995), son of Harry E. Wood. Sun ray through trees, c.1940, oil/canvas, 19 3/4" x 15 3/4". Signed and dated lower right. Good condition with no damage. Harry Wood graduated from the Univ. Wisconsin with a major in journalism. Cartoonist for several Wisconsin newspapers. Studied w/ John Frazier, Provincetown, MA, and Emil Bisttram, Taos, NM. Ph.D. of fine art, Ohio State Univ., 1941. Studied at the Accademia de Belle Arti in Florence. Chairman of the Art Dept. Arizona State Univ., 1954-66. Pres. Pacific Arts Assn., 1958-60. Served on the Council of the Natl. Art Education Assn. Who's Who in America & Who's Who in American Art. Known as an author, and for his portraits of George Santayana, Adlai Stevenson, Yehudi Menuhin, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Robert Frost. This painting comes directly from the estate of his brother, Albert Wood, who passed away recently. A document of provenance, signed by Francie Oburn- Albert's daughter, accompanies this painting.
