William Knapp exhibited his Colorado paintings in Paris in 1927. A similar painting by Knapp hangs in The Bowman-White House in Historic Georgetown Colorado. It's on loan from the collection of Hartman and Marguerite Axley.

Knapp (1862-1934) was a Colorado based painter and art restorer. Originally from Wisconsin, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago as well as in Boston and New York. During his career Knapp exhibited in Denver and Paris. Much of his landscape work was done around Estes Park and Grand Lake.
