Jon Blanchette Painting CALIFORNIA IMPRESSIONIST Jon Blanchette was born in Somerset, England on March 29, 1908. He came to Battle Creek, Michigan in 1918. Blanchette studied at the Pittsburgh Art Institute. He 1932 he, and his artist wife Jean, moved to Los Angeles where he painted, did architectural designs, interior decorating, ans stage sets for Fox Studios. In 1948 he abandoned commercial work and settled in Aptos, California. During the summers of 1965-75 he held workshops in Mendocino, California. Blanchetter died in Aptos on July 3, 1987. Jon Blanchette was a member of the Santa Cruz Art League, and the Marin County Artists. He exhibited his works with both of those Associations, and in the Annual Santa Cruz County Art Competition. Blanchette is listed in Davenport, Artists In California: 1786-1940 (Hughes), Who Was Who In American Art (Falk), the Artist's Bluebook (Dunbier), and at AskART.com. Our thanks to Edan Hughes for his contribution to this biography. Blanchette has placed his address label (from Aptos) on the back of this image, along with the painting title. It also includes an exhibition label from the Crocker Gallery (now Crocker Museum) in Sacramento, California. He has signed this work on the front L/L corner.
