C12 raised letters on 5 ¾" diameter cast iron badge plate. The consignors did some research and found out that this company began in 1873 and was eventually bought out by the American Car & Foundry Company in 1899. They were able to also find out that this was referred to as a badge plate and was on a Way Car (Caboose) that was built between 1886 & 1890. The Way Cars were the only cars that had this style of plates. All other types of cars had the St Charles Car Company logo painted on the sides of the cars. The piece appears to have been dug up showing some edge dents & dings and normal corrosion but still very acceptable and without a doubt a rare offering.
