Raised letters around inside base of cast iron turquoise ashtray with porcelain finish. Matchbox holder in center has embossed cherubs on either side of. This great offering is extremely rare, as only about 4 of these are known to exist in collections. These were made especially for "The Little Nugget" a club-lounge car for First Class passengers on board the City of Los Angeles. The car was host to many famous celebrities including George Burns. Who knows he could have rested one of his trademark cigars on this one! The car was designed by American artist Walt Kuhn in hopes of luring what was referred to as the "Hollywood Crowd". No expense was spared in decorating the car which housed a collection of 125 photographs & paintings of Vaudeville comedians, clowns & dancers. Furnished in Victorian style with velvet & lace draperies and plaster cherubs to resemble an Old West dance hall saloon. Wouldn't we all like to go back and take a ride. This piece is in near mint condition and a great example of days long gone!
