LOT 88 GN BRIDGE & TUNNEL GUARD

GN RY CO- BRIDGE & TUNNEL SPECIAL GUARD USRA CAMP 37 black enameled letters on this nickel finish shield design badge with C catch on reverse. Reverse also has 15 on applied disk. Consignor states that in 1917 the US Railroad Administration advised every Bridge, Tunnel, Structure and any facilities vital to National Defense would be protected 24 hours a day. This lasted until March 1920. It began again in 1941 until 1945. This is one of two types of badges that were used. During WWII a number tag was added to the back of the badge that matched a state issued badge. This lot comes with a copy of the ID card issued to the original owner dated 1941. Nice to be able to offer a badge with the added provenance that confirms this is an authentic offering. Certainly a great addition to any GN or badge collection. MINIMUM BID $300
