Ruxton's Trading Post

Ruxton's Trading Post is located in an historic building that straddles Ruxton Creek. Ruxton Creek served as a landmark and route for Native Americans and early 19th century explorers.  One of those explorers was Frederick Ruxton and it seemed appropriate that we name our store after him.

Ruxton Avenue is the route to the Cog Railway Station and the Barr Trail Trailhead. Ride the Cog Railway to the summit of Pikes Peak or test your stamina on Barr Trail, a 13 mile climb to the summit.

Devil's Head Fire Lookout Tower,Pike N.Forest

These are snapshots of my trip to Devil's Head Fire Lookout Tower on September 4, 2002. The first picture is of my friend Jay Jansen and me inside the Lookout. After we exchanged salutations Jay and I recalibrated the fire finder, announced our status 10-10, 10-8 to "PEE-EB-LOW" and dialed-up Dominos for delivery. A couple of Super Supremes later Jay and I added a 20 foot extension to the top of the radio antenna, spotted a couple of fires, saved two lost children and called it a day.


This is Jay and I after we worked on the fire finder. We spotted a fire and were waiting for the Dominos guy.


Here I am driving along Rampart Range Road on my way to Devil's Head Fire Lookout. The aspens are changing early this year or so they say. I am only 5 months old.


What is the hold-up?


Here I am performing a safety inspection on the footbridge along the Devils Head Trail.


This is the Lookout as seen from down near the Forest Service cabin.


This is the residence for the Fire Lookout Officer that is right below the tower.


This is the lower section of stairs that lead to the lookout tower.


Jay and I spend some quality time between duties.


Jay and I patrolled along the boardwalk every 15 minutes looking for smoke.


At the end of the day I lead us down the dangerous stairway.


This reminds me of an Escher print that I had owned in one of my past lives. This is the top of the stairs looking down. Deja vu!
