Michael Jed Robbins Huge Woodblock Robbins, Michael Jed (New York City, Born, 1949) Date: 1989 Title; "Ensueno de Mexico" Medium: Original Hand-Colored Linocut Note: Michael Robbins: A contemporary New York painter and printmaker, Michael Robbins graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Cooper Union in 1970. He then taught art techniques for a period of one year at Syracuse University. Robbins began exhibiting his work around 1975. In 1985 the artist was a recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. In his art, Michael Robbins concentrates upon the elements of speed and motion and how they relate to atmosphere, light and colors. An original linocut, "Spirit of Speed I" (Airplane in Motion) was printed and published in 1989 in a limited edition of forty-five signed impressions. Each impression was hand-colored by the artist, who used differing ranges of tones and values to explore the facets of speed and color. Thus every impression is a unique work of art. Today the art of Michael Jed Robbins will be found in many important collections, including The Sara Roby Foundation, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. Printed upon hand-made, archival paper and with full margins as created by the artist in 1989. Signed, dated, titled Ap11. Artwork measures 37 inches by 25 inches.
