Oneida Stars & Stripes Cranberry Opalescent Pickle Castor
This very patriotic and lovely Victorian silverplated pickle castor was made by Oneida Community Plate of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and is marked on the base. The resilvered frame is 12 1/2" tall, and 4 1/2" in diameter. It stands on four scrolled feet. The clawed tongs feature a flower motif, the same as the top of the frame. The lid fits the cranberry opalescent insert perfectly, no extra play in the lid or frame. The insert is 3 11/16" tall, and 2 7/8" in diameter. There are no cracks, chips or flakes in the near mint insert. It does have a tiny bubble on the inside, a minor factory flaw 3/8" from the lip, caused by fuzz in the mold (very hard to see!). This unusual pickle castor would make an exceptional addition to any collection!
