1910 E.J. Riley Child's Slated Pool Table & Card Table 1910 E.J Riley Ltd. Accrington- Child's Slate Mahogany Pool Table, Table & Card Table This is one of the most unique children's items we have ever owned! This
very beautiful child's pool table is solid mahogany, with ½" thick slate. It is
circa 1910, by E.J Riley Ltd. This pool table has only been re-felted in
burgundy felt, which matches the burgundy velvet folding playing surface,
which in turn sits on top of the four-section solid mahogany table top. The
mahogany table top is fitted to exactly cover the top of the pool table, and
each section has supports on the underside where it fits to the pool table
surface. There is green felt around the outside bottom edge where the table
top rests on the pool table bumpers. The pockets are the original ones, with
leather covered brass tops and skirts, and hand tied string pockets with
tassels. Each piece of the pool table is numbered according to the pockets
and the ends are marked. Each corner of the base is marked, "E.J. Riley,
Ltd. Accrington," and the pocket number. The E.J. Riley Ltd. label is in
excellent condition at the head of the table. The mahogany has been
polished up, and is all original. There are two child size pool cues, and a set
of 1 7/8" diameter balls, on a few of which it is hard to read the numbers.
We did have to have a rack custom-made to fit the balls. It is ebony and
Carpathian burled elm, hand polished with tung oil. This fabulous and very
unique pool table came from a private museum. This was the first time it
had ever been re-felted. The dimensions of the table are: 34 ½" wide, 64 ½"
long, and 28" tall. The mahogany table top dimensions are: 37 3/4" wide, 67
1/4" long, and 3/4" thick. The brown leather & burgundy velvet folding card playing surface is in
two sections and is also in excellent condition. It must not have been used
very often. In the 1870's, Edward John Riley opened sports shops in and around Manchester, England. A few years later he developed his own manufacturing base in Accrington, Lancashire, England, to produce billiard tables and other sports related equiptment. In 1925 E.J. Riley died, but he had become the largest manufacturer of billiard tables in the world. The Riley Company continues producing quality cue sports products to this day. For those of you who want a truly one of a kind and special
showpiece, this is definitely the pool table for you!
