1920's Ladies 5 Piece Brass Chatelaine 1920's Ladies 5 Piece Brass Chatelaine Originally, chatelaines were used by women in Medieval times as a type of work belt, holding keys, scissors, knives, and other useful items for the mistress of the castle. In the 1920's, when mesh purses were popularized by Mandallian, Whiting and Davis, and other companies, the chatelaine enjoyed newfound interest also. This 1920's brass set includes a pincushion, pencil, notepad with celluloid writing surface, perfume bottle, and smelling salts bottle. The popularity of the chatelaine slowed quickly, and not many are found today. This set is in excellent used condition, showing some wear to the brass. The belt clip on the back side of the brass filigree holder has been re-welded at one time in its life. The dimensions of this set are: pencil- 2 ½" long, perfume bottle- 2" long and 5/8" wide, notepad- 2" by 1", and filigree holder- 3 1/4" by 2 1/4". The brass chains are 4" long. A very unique and interesting item for a collector of ladies purses! Please be patient for eight larger pictures to download!
