Late 1800's Walnut Slant Front Secretary Bookcase

A beautiful solid walnut slant front secretary in excellent and room-ready condition. This piece is simple, yet elegant, and would blend with many decorating styles. It is seven feet tall and comes apart just below the two center drawers to make moving it a little easier. All of the drawers have wide dovetailing. The slant front secretary portion drops down and is supported by two square pull out wood rods. There are five large pigeon holes inside with two drawers. The upper bookcase section has all original glass with a few bubbles and waves in the glass. The glazing inside is original, as well. The lower section has two doors with arched cut-outs, and it also has one shelf. There is no lock on the lower doors; they close by a latch. The upper bookcase section has a brass locking mechanism on the left door to keep it closed, and it locks with a key. All hardware is original except for an interior snap latch that keeps the lower doors closed. We feel the drop front writing surface was professionally refinished a few years ago, and it looks great. There is one ink stain from an inkwell that we're sure is very old. Dimensions of this fine walnut secretary bookcase are: 7' tall, 42 3/8" wide, and 20 ½" deep. This piece is a great height to fit in even a modern home with 8' tall ceilings - a rarity in old pieces!

All hardware is original except for an interior snap latch that keeps the lower doors closed. We feel the drop front writing surface was professionally refinished a few years ago, & it looks great!
