1900's Odd Fellows Society Ceremonial Magic Lantern
(Item: 4138)

Early 1900's Odd Fellows Society Lodge Ceremonial Magic Lantern

Here's a unique item for film and photographic memorabilia collectors. This "magic lantern" has both gas fueled and early electric parts,... very interesting. This set came together in the storage box you see photographed. The additional gas fuel parts may be from another lamp or lantern. Even so, it is being sold as a set. It is all original, and in excellent condition. The gas parts are marked "M.K. & Co." with three patent dates, the last of which is December 27, 1898, appear on the triple gas burner. "France" is embossed on the lens adjuster. We been told that the lantern is possibly manufactured by M.C. Lilley, more research needs to be done. The lenses are all intact, no chips or cracks. The gas canister holder is brass, the lens and supports are nickelplate. The body of the magic lantern is metal and is black. The cord for electricity is original, as are the porcelain and brass screw in socket and the light bulb base. The cord and socket screw directly into a light bulb socket. The old projection lightbulb is even present! There are seven ceremonial Odd Fellows Lodge slides. The slides are framed in wood, with copper banding between the wood and glass. The hand tinted ceremonial slides are in great shape, and represent degrees of the society, and ceremonial events. Most of the slides are marked on the sides with the degrees in hand lettering. The wooden storage case for the lantern and slides is included, and also in great condition. Whoever was in charge of this piece took very good care of it over the years. Dimensions of the magic lantern are: 18 ½" long, 6 ½" wide, and 12" tall without the chimney and gas canister. The storage box is 13 ½" wide, 13 ½" tall, and 23 3/4" long. A fabulous conversation piece to enjoy and share with your fellow collectors!
