AT&SF (Santa Fe) Railway Mimbreno Demitasse Cup & Saucer Set

This very nice demitasse (after dinner) cup & saucer is in the "Mimbreno" pattern, the white version. The cup and saucer are in near mint condition. The saucer only has three under glaze kiln touch marks on the back side. There are no chips, cracks, or flea bites on either piece. The cup is back stamped "Syracuse China, 99-J (date code 1970), Made Expressly for Santa Fe Dining Car Service." The saucer is back stamped "Syracuse China, 100-A (date code 1971), Made Expressly for Santa Fe Dining Car Service." The cup is 2 3/8" tall, and the saucer is 4 ½" in diameter. Mimbreno railroad china was used on the Santa Fe Super Chief from 1937 to 1971. It was designed by Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter, a Harvey System employee. She was given the commission to design china based on the concept of the Membres Indians. Her resultant designs are widely collected to this day. A wonderful addition to make to your dining car china collection!
